In July 2014, Maryann Kaikai, Creative Director of Madam Wokie met with Jill Biden during a visit to Sierra Leone on her final stop on a three-country visit to Africa. The aim of her visit was to highlight the importance of girls’ education and women’s participation in government, the economy, and civil society in accelerating economic development, improving health and educational outcomes, strengthening democratic governance, and fostering peace and security.
A reception was held by Sierra Leone's Second Lady, Mrs Khadija Sam Sumana, as part of Sierra Leone’s recognition of the significance of this visit. It was a pleasure to interact with so many beautiful ladies and share ideas on fashion, politics and much more.
